Virtual – Photoshop for Photographers with Mickey Strand
2 Days – September 19, & 21, 2022 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm EST
This class is geared for anyone who wants to work on images in Photoshop. You don’t have to have any Photoshop experience. You must have the application installed on your computer and have launched the application. (Follow this link for a free Photoshop trial) The class will meet in 2 sessions, for 3 hours each session. Please allow additional time in your schedule if the class gets interactive and goes over time.
This is a Photoshop Soup-2-nuts, (3hr) lesson each day. Each lesson will be broken down into segments (this is the watching part of the show and tell). Each of these segments will be Followed by a Demo/Do’s (this is where you launch the app and follow along). there will be one short break and a Q/A period included in each segment.
Some of the segments will focus on demonstration and definitions but there is always time for you to demonstrate what you have learned. Below is just a surface scratching of all the amazing Adobe Photoshop we will cover.
September 19th
- Lesson 1 –The interface: Learn the vocabulary of the items on your screen and how to set photoshop up for working as a photographer, and how to save any adjustments you might have set for easy recall by photoshop. For example, if you’re left-handed you can set photoshop upright (correctly) for you and backward for anyone else.

- Docking pallets / Collapsing Pallets

- Setting preferences – Saving setups
- Lesson 2 – Tools you have to know: The toolbar is full of amazing tools that will let you do everything from edit portraits to create items in 3D, but this lesson will define and demonstrate the tools most important to early editors in Photoshop.

- Loading and saving
- Key modifiers like the option key
- Selections tools
- Marquees – Elliptical selection tool (Opt, Shift, Control)

September 21st.
- Lesson 3 – Fixing Photos: Using the tools in photoshop to rebuild simply too complex issues in photos from portrait to landscape.
- Healing Brush –

- Red-eye tool
- Clean stamp tool
- Frequency separations lesson
- Skin texture and color repair
- Lesson 4 – Terms and definitions agreement: This is so we all start on the same page and head in the same directions at every turn.
- The stuff you have to know thats not so simple.
- Color Spaces – Profiles
- Adobe RGB / ProPhoto / sRGB / CMYK
- What is Resolution DPI vs PPI 100
- Blend modes – they are more than just for layers. Get to know the ones that matter
- Multiple / Screen / difference / H-S-L-C
- Actions – why do things the hard way if you can save time?
- Q/A time. we have left a few min in every class for questions and answers but this is when we get to all the stuff you asked that we said wait till the end and see if it all makes sense.
Before class starts:

What is the cancellation policy?
If you need to withdraw from a virtual workshop, please inform us at least 7 days before the day of class and we will refund your payment, less a 10% withdrawal fee. No refund of payments will be made if you do not notify us of your withdrawal 7 days prior to the start of class unless a replacement is found to fill your vacant space. If a replacement is found we will refund your payment less the 10% withdrawal Fee. Please note that no refund of any fees will be made for no-shows or withdrawal after a workshop begins.
