Lecture – Jean Miele Where the Horizon Begins 

Worlds that exist in parallel to this one. Worlds beyond the veil. Nature is often my subject matter, but my photographs are more about the nature of reality, and about photography as a transformational process.

In this public presentation at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, I’ll talk about where the horizon begins, and the influence of Hudson River School painting, perception science, Zen Buddhism, and 19th & 20th century landscape photography on my work. You’ll see some brand new, never-before-seen photos I’ve been making around my new home in northern New Mexico, and I’ll invite you to consider the relationship between photography, mysticism, and things that are “bigger than us.”
