Digital Imaging Workshops

EQUIPMENT
You should bring your 35mm negatives or slides, prints of any size, or examples of digital work. Palm Beach Photographic Centre labs are fully equipped with high-performance Macintosh and PC Windows-based Pentium computers. Participants may specify their preference when registering for a workshop. Available to use are various Canon Digital Cameras. In addition, workstations are equipped with a Wacom tablet, as well as an Epson Stylus Photo desktop printer. The Lab is also equipped with Epson wide format printers. Participants view instructor’s work through a multimedia projector. Important: Magnetic media (CD's, notebooks, flashcards, etc.) can go through the x-ray machine without causing any problems to your data.

If your workshop includes a photography component, you should bring your camera equipment. You must supply your own 35mm film and processing, as well as your printing paper for the ink-jet printers.

NOTE: One-day seminars do not include scanning or printing, unless specifically indicated in the course description.

LAB
Participants have exclusive access to a single workstation during the workshop. The workshops generally run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day with a one-and-a-half hour break for lunch. Teaching assistants will be available to answer any questions that you may have. If you did not indicate your computer preference (Mac or PC) on your application form, please notify us immediately or we can't guarantee that you'll be able to work on the platform of your choice.

The Imaging Overview workshop is recommended for those who are not familiar with Macintosh or PC computers or for anyone who would like a refresher course prior to their upcoming workshop. If you wish to take home the images you have created, please bring an external drive or a CD-ROM, or you may purchase one at The PRO SHOP for this purpose.

Photography Workshops

It is highly recommended that you bring a portfolio containing examples of your work. Your portfolio will enable the instructor to review your past work to compare with your progress during the workshop. Submission of a portfolio may be a prerequisite for acceptance in certain workshops. Simply send us (10) duplicate slides or 8" x 10" unmounted prints, or a CD. (The Centre will not be responsible for original artwork.) Acceptance into the workshop cannot be determined until portfolios are received. Be sure to include a stamped, self-addressed envelope so that we can return your work.

NOTE: With the advent of digital capture, the Photographic Centre has elected to discontinue collection of film processing fees from participants choosing to shoot film or enrolled in classes which require film capture. While we will continue to provide overnight processing services, participants will be responsible for their own expenses for film processing. With the enormous increase in the use of digital cameras for image capture, the Centre’s offerings are designed to benefit and equally serve film and digital photographers. All classrooms will have a computer workstation for viewing digital images.

Miscellaneous

PORTFOLIO REVIEW
It is strongly recommended that you bring your portfolio or some examples of your work for the instructor to review the first day. It is important for an instructor to know what you are doing both past and present. Your portfolio will enable them to properly guide you during your workshop. You will learn from each other during the week, not only from portfolio reviews, but also from what each person produces.

To enroll in some workshops, it may be necessary to submit a portfolio for acceptance. We have made the submission process as photographer-friendly as possible. Simply send us (10) duplicate slides or 8x10 unmounted prints. (The Centre will not be responsible for original artwork.) Acceptance into the workshop cannot be determined until portfolios are received. Please send them to us in a timely manner. Be sure to include a stamped, self-addressed envelope so that we can return your slides or prints.

SUPPLIES
The PRO SHOP, our professional stock dealer supply store located within our facility, is run by photographers, for photographers. For your convenience, The PRO SHOP carries a complete selection of factory fresh film, paper, chemistry, supplies and a wide range of computer printing papers at very competitive prices. Liability, Refunds, Cancellations and Attire

Liability
In the event a workshop is cancelled, for any reason, the extent of our liability is limited to the return of fees paid to us. All workshop participants accept full responsibility for personal injury and/or personal losses during the period of the workshop, and are required to sign a waiver of responsibility. Applications and payments are an acknowledgment of the terms and conditions as outlined in this brochure.

NOTE: The Palm Beach Photographic Centre assumes no liability for non-refundable airline tickets that cannot be used due to workshop cancellations or misprints in this catalog. PBPC advises that you not purchase a non-refundable airline ticket. Schedule changes occasionally occur at the Centre, beyond our control, and we cannot be responsible for non-refundable airline tickets.

Refunds
All deposits will be refunded IN FULL if a workshop is cancelled. If you decide to withdraw from a workshop, please inform us at least 30 days before the first day of class; we will refund your deposits, less a $100 withdrawal fee. Our obligations to the professionals who teach at the Centre dictate that no refund of payments will be made to you if you do not notify us of your withdrawal 30 days before the start of the workshop (120 days for travel workshops). In the event that a replacement is found to fill your vacant space, all payments, less the withdrawal fee will be refunded. No refund of fees will be made for no-shows or for withdrawal after the workshop begins. Membership fees are non-refundable.

Workshop Cancellation
Because our instructors are working professional photographers, occasionally, it may be necessary to postpone or cancel a workshop. Though rare, an instructor may be called away to a late-breaking assignment. If the scheduled instructor becomes unavailable for the announced dates, we will immediately inform all registrants of a substitute workshop instructor, an alternative workshop, or offer the opportunity to withdraw. Anyone withdrawing will receive a FULL refund of all fees and deposits paid. Workshops in which enrollment does not exceed eight registrants are subject to cancellation. Notification of cancellation will be made at least 8 days prior to the beginning of classes. Fees and deposits paid will be refunded IN FULL, or we will suggest alternative courses. In the event of a workshop cancellation, you will be offered the opportunity to retain your hotel reservations at the specially reduced rates arranged for workshop participants. Membership fees are non-refundable.

Attire
With the gentle breezes of the Gulf Stream and an average temperature of 72°, clothing should be light, comfortable and casual. A sweater or windbreaker might be needed for cooler night temperatures. Men should consider packing a sports coat because of dress requirements at some of the area's more formal restaurants. Don't forget a swimsuit for an occasional dip in our warm tropical waters!
