Of all the subjects in photography, the landscape offers the photographer the widest range of opportunities in terms of different lighting, elements of composition, styles of interpretation and equipment choices. Landscape photography has undergone a number of dramatic changes in the digital age such that today’s digital photographer has even more options available both at the camera stage and in the computer. This has resulted in new forms of creative expression. This seminar reviews many of the digital options now available and explores how these options can lead to different forms of expression and even the development of a distinctive style in landscape photography.
Among the techniques covered: Traditional landscape compositions, High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography, digital infrared photography, panoramic photography without a panoramic camera, special digital filtration techniques, landscape software methods for maximum quality and the digital control of depth of field. There is also an exploration of alternative landscape styles including minimalist compositions, the Pictorial mindset, the use of motion and the wonderful world of “B” as in extraordinary long exposures using the bulb setting. All techniques will be illustrated using over 200 images with handouts containing important “how-to” information and references.
